The Napoleon 20 Francs Or, commonly known as the Louis d'Or, was created on 28 March 1803 by order of the First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte. It was used until 1914.

This renewed interest can be seen on the graph of the coin's price. While the trend had been stable for several years, the curve began to rise steadily from 2006 and peaked in August 2011, rising from €89 on 16 August 2006 to €294.70 on 11 August 2011, an increase of over 230%.
The price then underwent a correction and rebounded in 2014 to reach an all-time high of €333 in April 2020.
