20 Francs Marianne Rooster gold coin is illustrated the Gallic Rooster, which is the graphic representation for the rich history and culture of France.
The 20 Francs or Coq Marianne is the French gold coin emblematic of the period when the Gold Franc shone in Europe. It was the first time under the Third Republic that an original design by Jules-Clément Chaplain was engraved on a French gold coin.
1. History of the 20 franc Marianne Coq coin
Created under the IIIᵉ République by the famous engraver Jules-Clément Chaplain, this coin was minted between 1898 and 1914, a period marked by strong republican symbols. On the edge, the inscription "Dieu protège la France" (until 1906) gives way, from 1907, to " Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité", reflecting the separation of Church and State.
After the Second World War, faced with a destabilized local gold market, the Banque de France decided to relaunch issues: the so-called "Pinay" refrappes (1951-1960). Although the old vintages (1907-1914) were used, they were often in near-new condition - 37 million were produced, offering an abundant supply in near-perfect condition. In total, an estimated 117 million of these coins have been minted, guaranteeing liquidity and solid recognition on the French market.
