HISTORY :
In August 1914, the German breakthrough towards the capital led the authorities to evacuate part of the threatened Paris monetary workshop to Castelsarrasin. Some of the staff were moved to the south of France. By mid-September, the Castelsarrasin workshop was operational and could start work. The Ministry of Finance decides that the coins to be minted there must bear the letter C. The workshop was only active for eight weeks and in mid-November 1914 it was closed as the threat of German occupation of Paris receded.
