History of the 20 Francs Marianne Coq coin
The "20 francs" module established itself in the XIXᵉ century as the standard for savings and payments in France. In this context, the IIIᵉ République puts forward a republican type that will become the most familiar to savers: the Marianne Coq, the work of Jules-Clément Chaplain. Issues cover the Belle Époque from 1899 to 1914, with two periods: 1899-1906 (initial period) then 1907-1914 (the "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" era).
Minting was carried out by the Monnaie de Paris, according to the unchanging 20 F standard (weight/title/dimension), which facilitated international acceptance. After the war, the type re-emerged in the form of stock issues and reissues, including the famous "Pinay" (1951-1960): official backdated issues 1907-1914 for the gold market, which explains the abundance of examples in superb condition in these vintages.
This heritage combines technical continuity, weight stability and mass distribution, making the 20 franc "Marianne Coq" the most immediately readable French coin for investors. The five-unit boxed set condenses this history into a homogeneous lot that's easy to value.
Price trend of the 20 Franc Marianne Coq
Over twenty years, the trajectory first reflects the price of gold: strong growth 2005-2011, breathing space 2013-2015, then a marked recovery from 2019, with record highs in 2024-2025 (in euros).
Why invest in the Marianne Coq 5-coin 20 Franc set?
This boxed set of 5 coins combines all the advantages you're looking for: a format that can be exchanged worldwide, high liquidity and immediate readability on the market. Within the " Napoleon " family, the "Marianne Coq" is the most widely circulated republican alter ego; the 20 Francs module exists in several effigies (Tête nue/laurée, Génie, Cérès, Marianne), all recognized by professionals. A French coin par excellence and highly prized in France, it is ideal for investors who want to build up tangible savings with a fractional entry ticket (5 units) and easy resale. Presented as a homogeneous set, it's also a magnificent piece to offer: a meaningful heritage gift that's easy to pass on.
